Book of 3 John

Pronunciation:

Authorship and Origin:

This book is a personal letter from John, not an exchange between churches as II John is. It is written to someone named Gaius, who we know nothing more about. The letter is brief because John hopes soon to see him face-to-face.

Overview and Significant sections

Again as in II John, hospitality is the issue. But in this case a church leader, named Diotrephes have not shown adequate hospitality to a friend of John named Demetrius. Diotrephes may be overly protective of the local church trying to keep out false teachings and has therefore rejected all teachers. John urges hospitality as a primary virtue of Christian love.
