ROSF is an organization that developed first from a concept of community development. We realized that in order for the community to really be developed, it's persons must be develop. Thus we are a people development organization. It was founded to honor the memory of the founder's mother , Sharon Jackson Neal, who at the young age of twenty-five, was tragically killed. The foundation was organized to raise the awareness of communal development through people development. Because our youth are ourmost prized and cherished asset, the foundation's mission is to develop and perpetuate community growth through mentoring, educational seminars, and scholarly research.
Our mission is to touch the world by establishing healthy relationships with families and communities through various means and to spread the truth of successful living through God and the help of others
The Rose of Sharon Foundation is part of a growing number of community development programs that specialize in the area of mentoring. Mentoring by definition is a relationship based upon friendship, trust and honor. Our mission is to touch the world by establishing healthy relationships with families and communities through various means and to spread the truth of successful living through God and the help of others.
Four Areas of Empowerment
Our mentor program is based upon four basic principles of personal development: Knowing, Being, Doing, and Impacting. Knowing deals with the aspect of content knowledge or academics. Being deals specifically with character and personal development. Doing deals with the areas of competence in academic, personal, and career growth and development. Finally there is impacting which brings the whole of the other principles home into the community. Based upon these principles, we at ROSF believe that community development can occur and perpetuate in a manner that cannot be disputed. ROSF is a part of the National Mentoring Partnership and Youth Partners of Pine Bluff. It is our hope and goal to develop people holistically through the avenues of mentoring, volunteering, academic achievement, and scholarly research. Together with the community, school, and family support we are becoming a training force for the 21st century.
