Maybe there are vital things you sorrow over in your life fully convinced that you have lost them. Well, Jesus is alive and He sees you. He really does. He sees your situation, your difficulties. And He is willing and able to deliver you. A certain woman in a small town called Nain had been twice bereaved. She had lost her husband; then she had lost her only son. This widow was in desolation and despair. She had great cause for sorrow. Soon after her son died a funeral was arranged for him. Many of the residents of Nain were with the widow to comfort her that day. However, they could only give her temporary comfort. They could not replace her son, and afterwards they must attend to their own lives. On the day of the funeral Jesus and His disciples had (presumably) left Capernaum where He had healed the servant of the centurion. Nain was not such an important town. In fact, we don't read about it again in the Bible; but Jesus went there with His disciples. He was not just passing through on His way to a more important city. He had an urgent appointment to keep with Nain. "Now," the Bible records, `when He came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out... And when the Lord saw her (the widow), He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not." (Luke 7:12-13). Jesus had compassion on the widow. Pray now for God to have mercy on you. Man's succour is temporary, but the succour of God is permanent. Jesus said, "I will have compassion on whom I will." (Rom. 9:15). In His three years of ministry Jesus healed many who were blind. The gospel, according to Mark and Luke, tells in more detail the story of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, who was sitting on the roadside just outside of Jericho as Jesus was passing. "And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight." (Mark 10:47-51). Bartimaeus removed the cloak with which he had shielded himself. To obtain the mercy of God it is necessary that we should cast off the cloak(s) or thing(s) with which we have been previously identified. Also, Bartimaeus was not careful in calling out to Jesus to have compassion on him, to open his eyes. He persisted despite those who cautioned him to keep quiet. When Jesus called him Bartimaeus was not careful in rushing through the crowd to Him. Likewise, consider that situation that has oppressed you greatly. Resolve to get out of it now. Resolve not to be the same again. Jesus is here by His Spirit to heal and to deliver. Cast off that cloak. Call upon Him. Ask for God's mercy to deliver you from that affliction, now. The many mourners could not give permanent comfort to the widow of Nain. But Jesus had more than comfort for her. When He saw her He felt sorry for her. "Do not cry," He said. Then He went up and put His hand on the bier. The bearers stood still, and Jesus said, "Young man, get up!" And the son who was dead sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him to his mother. In other words, Jesus restored her joy. Are you dejected? Do you feel as if the end has come for you? Then let God's name be glorified in your life this moment. The power that raised the dead is available to heal you now. Cast off all fear. The compassionate Jesus is here. He sees you just as He saw blind Bartimaeus. Just as He heard the blind man's cry, He hears yours. He is calling you, too. It is not by accident that you are reading this message now. Jesus saw a blind man before Him; nevertheless, the Healer asked: "What do you want me to do for you?" Tell Him in faith what you want Him to do for you and receive your healing in Jesus' name.
For us to be able to receive the promised blessings of God in this month of December, the most important thing we must do is trust Him. This principle was illustrated perfectly in the life of our forefather, Abraham, who with full faith and trust came to the altar of sacrifice with his son, Isaac. Like Abraham, we must be willing to say, "God, whatever it is, whatever I am to do, I am willing to do it, or to give it up, because I know I am in covenant with you. I know I can trust you to restore more than I give up." The reason it is so hard for most of us to trust God is because we cannot believe He has our best interests at heart. However, once we understand that the relationship God had with Abraham is the same relationship He wants with us, it will change our thinking. As we get the knowledge into our spirit that the blood covenant with Abraham is the core, or seed, of the blood covenant cut by Jesus, then our inner man will be strengthened to stand through anything! The confidence will come from knowing that, because God never broke the Old Covenant, He certainly will not break the new one. His Promises are absolutely trustworthy. "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips" (Ps. 89:4). God's covenants cannot be broken, because God does not lie and never changes (Heb. 6:18; Mal. 3:6). God will never break His covenant. Though the world may be crumbling around us, we can walk securely in the everlasting covenant between God and man. Every promise God made to Abraham has already come to pass in Jesus (Gal. 3:17), and every promise He made to us will come to pass. Through Christ, the blessings of Abraham are ours!
