Social isolation is not a condition with which human beings can easily cope.20th Century medicine has created a social group of elderly men and women who, in the natural process of growing older, are prone to physical and spiritual isolation. As family and social networks shrink many of those who have benefited most from modern medicine find themselves isolated within the surrounding vibrant society. The Excelsior Club, a not for profit organisation, through a net work of volunteers, provides free transport to the club venue where through music, interaction with peers, and specifically targeted activities the elderly members of the Maryborough Community are encouraged to avoid the physical, mental, and spiritual dangers of social isolation.
