1)    What is Glory to God Ministries?

         Glory to God Ministries was founded in 1994 to serve the
 needs of people, beginning with the Carver community. Our special
 focus is those who have been incarcerated and now seek to live
 faithfully.


2)     What are the mission and objectives of the organization?

       Glory to God Ministries helps people to become responsible,
 self-sufficient, contributing members of the
 community. There are three primary objectives: to provide training in
 skills that eqip people to live and work; to provide physical
 and spiritual sustenance; and to provide a beacon of hope in the community.
 

3)      What is the motivation behind this work?

As Christians, we are taught to help those in need. Glory to God
 Ministries is built upon the Scriptural admonition of Jesus Christ,
 "as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren,
 you did it to me." (Matthew 25:40). In today's urban environment,
 there exist many negative influences that interfere 
with the opportunity for people to realize their potential.
 Glory to God ministries strives to help people physically, vocationally and spiritually.


4)       How is this accomplished?

The multi-faceted work of the ministry centers in and around the
 Nurture House, a transitional home for men seeking to live a
 Christian life after incarceration. The house offers physical
 shelter--a vital refuge from the influences that contributed to their
 earlier difficulties--and fellowship among men of similar 
aspiration. Vocational assistance is given in the form of computer classes ,
 which have been offered to residents and neighbors since the program's inception;
 GED classes are planned to begin in 1998. 
Spiritual development is nurtured in Bible study, worship, 
prayer and Christian fellowship.


5)       How many participants benefit from the program?

The Nurture House accommodates up to six men, each committing to a
 six-month residence covenant; a second six-month
 term may be offered by vote of the board. Since the spring of 1996,
 many men have made the Nurture House their home,
 and many men and women have participated in vocational training there.

         

6)     What is the vision for the future?

Several near-term needs are opportunities for the ministry to more
 fully serve its mission in the community. 
First, NURTURE HOUSE furnishings will be upgraded, 
preferably through donated goods. Second, 
computer classes will be expanded, once computers are upgraded to run newer software.
 Third, GED courses are to be initiated, once qualified teachers are identified. 
Fourth, a women's Nurture House is being considered,
 potentially opening in early 1999.


7)      What is the annual budget?

Glory to God Ministries operates within a modest budget. 
Having proven the impact of the programs and looking to
 achieve the vision for growth,
 we have declare 1998 to be a year of jubilee and new beginning
 with a budget $26,880. Both from a programmatic
 and fundraising standpoint, this will require casting 
our nets in new areas.

8)       How are the programs supported?

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Glory to God Ministries is
 blessed by support from both individuals and institutions. 
In addition to monetary contributions, the programs 
have greatly benefited from and 
continue to need donations of clothing,
 furniture, appliances, computers and office equipment.
 Importantly, the ministry appreciates the prayerful
 support of the faithful throughout Richmond and beyond.

9)        Who runs the program?

Douglas Ross is the founder and president of Glory to God Ministries,
 chairing a board of eight men and women of diverse backgrounds.


10)      What are the greatest immediate challenges?

Like many helping organizations, financial support is needed,
 especially as we broaden the positive impact of our work. As we grow
 we must expand our teaching faculty and build our board in
 order to offer greater resources to program participants and to enable
 the continued vitality of the organization. We are confident
 that these needs will be met through all those who care
 as we do, "for the least of the brethren."
