The Mersey Mission to Seafarers is the oldest surviving Anglican Church seamen's mission in the world and was started in 1856. Based in Liverpool, we care for all seafarers visiting our ports on the River Mersey, the Manchester Ship Canal and the Isle of Man. We also help retired seafarers and their families living in Merseyside. We seek to share our faith by meeting people where they are, providing spiritual and practical help whenever needed. We believe in the sanctity of every human life and that all people are loved by God. In practice, we share our faith with those who are often lonely and far from their families, and try to reassure them that they are loved by God. In our ports our practical help is shown in supporting seafarers who are the victimes of exploitation, injustice, loneliness and isolation as an expression of our belief that the Gospel of Christ is to love one another.
The Registered Office and Seafarer's Club is at Colonsay House near to the Freeport of Liverpool. The Club provides a home from home for all seafarers. If required, seafarers are transported to and from their ships in our mini-buses. The club, manned by friendly staff and volunteers, provide a warm welcome to all who visit. We are an independent mission within the Flying Angel Network.
