Targeted at the many youth living in the Desire Street housing projects in New Orleans, the ministry focuses heavily upon college preparation, leadership, and last but certainly not least, developing relationships with Jesus Christ.
Twice per week, 50-120 students of G.W. Carver High School and Junior High meet in the evenings at Desire Street Ministries' facility located on the north edge of the Desire Street housing projects, the largest public housing development in the south, and the most dangerous address in New Orleans. Tutoring, Bible study, leadership training, and (importantly!) supper are provided to high school and junior high groups separately.
Desire Street Ministries is funded by a number of private donors, churches, and the sales of Mo Leverett's accolade winning music, which is often inspired by the place he lives (yes, Mo lives IN the Desire area) and the young people he works with.
