This Assembly of God was formerly known as Fresno First Samoan Assembly of God. It began with the help of Southern California District, Samoan Section Church Planter, Taulima and Carolina Mageo Devoux from Rancho Palos Verdes, in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles County, California, with the Assistance of Pastor Ula and Alofa Sau Amataga Pomele from the Northern California District Samoan Section who is the Founder-Pastor of Vallejo Samoan Assembly of God in North Vallejo Assembly of God (English-Speaking), and the volunteer help of local Home Missionary, Larry Southwick, working under these great men of God. (Brother Southwick was the later selected to be the first Youth Teacher, when Sunday School Classes were formed, with Carolina being the younger children's and Pastor Tualima the Samoan Adult's in Samoan). After this Assembly was established, Pastor Taulima Mageo Devoux was in a Samoan Assemblies of God gathering in the Bay Area, where Pastor Kenny and Fua Lafaele were, and he felt they were the chosen by God to be the local, first permanent Pastors. Pastor Lafaele had been teaching the Adult Class for seven years in the main San Francisco Samoan Assembly of God and was up for Pastor, along with another Associate, after the older Pastor retired. But they sacrifically came to take over the local Assembly. It grew and became well-established as the only Samoan Church in this Central California Area. The closest known Samoan Valley Churches are all Assembly of God and are located in Taft, Manteca and Stockton. Pastor Kenny Lafaele is from a noted Samoan Assemblies of God family with two brothers Pastoring in the Honolulu area and other relatives Ministering among the large work in New Zealand, etc. Pastor Lafaele has traveled to the World Assemblies of God Samoan Convention in Western Samoa a few years ago and held Crusade in several places with a Samoan Evangelist and the famous Samoan Katina Brothers Christian Musical Group. Pastor Kenny and Fua Lafaele have a son, Ken, who plays drums in the Assembly and is working and in College in Fresno, and a daughter, Rose, in Technical College, who is helpful in the Assembly. Pastor Kenny plays the organ and has recently made a recording with a young man new in the Assembly, Brother Sini Ioane (John) T. Salanoa (see link below). He has a blend of hymns bi-lingually and newer styles to appeal to all ages and Samoan and English speakers. Contact the Assembly for the future release.
