WHO WE ARE: Our members come from many different church backgrounds, who desire to live out their Christian baptismal vow in this Orthodox Catholic Faith Community of believers.
This Orthodox Catholic Faith Community of believers revere the Pope as first among many Bishops and as a true Man of God. We have the LORD JESUS CHRIST AS OUR HEAD and the successors of His Apostles as our earthly leaders. Our goal is to bring soundness to the lives of people, spiritually and naturally. We believe life is meaningful and has purpose for all. Through our unique relationships we seek to develop a sense of community. We desire as a community of believers to insure that each person is heard and respected as we grow in faith. Simply speaking our ministry is caring for others and sharing Christ's concern with them in attempting to meet both their physical and spiritual needs. St. Simon Cyrenian's mission is Orthodox (from Greek, "right - believing" implies the claim to doctrinal consistency with apostolic truth.) Catholic ( Meaning universal church) in that we participate in the full sacramental ministry of the church. The Seven Sacraments of the historic Catholic Church are affirmed as practiced: 1. Baptism, 2. Confirmation, 3. Holy Eucharist, 4. Penance (Individual & general absolution), 5. Sacrament of the Sick, 6. Marriage, 7. Holy Orders.

Source of Episcopate of The African Orthodox Ch.

(1.) St. Peter became the first Bishop and Patriarch of Antioch in Syria, about 38 A.D. reigning over his See for six (6) years before he became Bishop of Rome. St. Peter was succedded at Antioch by Evodius who followed by Ignatius the Martyr.
(2.) In 1872, Ignatius Peter III became the 125 Successor of St. Peter in his original chair at Antioch. It was this Ignatius Peter who, by a Patriarchal Bull in 1891, allowed the consecration of the Priest Joseph Rene Vilatte, with the title of Archbishop Metropolitan, and named him Mar Timotheus I. Archbishop Timotheus I served as Patriarch of the churches of Orthodox Faith in the Archdiocese of America.
(3.) The Line of Succesion results from the consecration of Joseph Rene Vilatte by Bishop Paul Athanasius, who was himself concsecrated at the hands of Ignatius Peter in 1877. This same Joseph Vilatte consecrated the first Patriarch of the African Orthodox Church, George Alexander McGuire on September 28th, 1921, in Chicago. Archbishop Jamen Bernardt Butler, O.S.B., D.D. is the 6th and present Primate of the African Orthodox Church Inc.
