Welcome!
We are pleased that you have chosen to visit us on our home page.
This church is more than just a building. This church is the people
who meet here and have placed their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
We are learning how to reach out to other people, to care for one
another and grow in faith.
If your live in this area or plan to visit the Hudson River Valley, we
invite you to worship with us. We also invite you to attend our
Sunday School and other activities. Find here a place of service
where people can discover and use their God-given gifts for ministry.
Together, let us discover all the great things God is doing!

Our Story
In 1710, the Holy Spirit led 1,140 people from the Palatinate
in Germany to the East Camp along the Hudson River Valley, where
they built a house of worship. From that beginning, the Reformed
Church of Germantown was officially organized in 1728. Since then,
this church has had three buildings, four parsonages and over
thirty-four pastors. The cornerstone for our present building was
laid on July 5, 1880. This church has had a long and significant
ministry within the community of Germantown, New York and our
denomination, the Reformed Church in America.
While a congregation is identified with the building in which it
meets, the building exists only because of the peopl's active
ministry. The Reformed Church of Germantown is a community of
people who have responded to God's call by placing their faith
and trust in Jesus Christ. We are the church, first called by God
and then sent to serve and honor Jesus and to tell everyone about him
(Acts 1:8-9). This church is revealed in the faces and names of
the people who worship here. We are the body of Christ who worship
at the Reformed Church of Germantown.

What We Believe
We believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God
and the Savior of those who have faith in him.
We believe the Bible to the Word of God and the final
authority for faith and practice.
We believe in the historic Christian faith as professed
by believers through the ages.
The Reformed Church in America accepts three universal creeds:
The Apostle's Creed,
the
Athanasian Creed,
and the Nicene Creed.
In addition, we also accept three major confessional statements:
The Heidelberg Catechism,
the Belgic Confession,
and the
Cannons of the Synod of Dort.
We also have adopted a contemporary statement of faith,
"Our Song of Hope,"
for use in our ministry of witness, teaching and worship.

|
Our Pastors
The roots of our church go all the way back to 1710 and the
settlement of about 1,140 Germans at the "East Camp" which is nearby.
These Germans were both Lutheran and Reformed. The pastor who led
the "Reformed" people was John Fred Haeger. Since that time, we have
had over 34 pastors who served various periods of time ranging from 2
to 28 years.

Our Denomination

THE REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA (RCA)

"The crest of the Reformed Church Church in America is an adaptation
of the sixteenth century coat of arms of William the Silent, Prince of
Orange, to whom the Netherlands owes its civil and religious independence.
When the Reformed Church in American adapted the crest it added the pillars
and stars and two mottos: "Eendract Maakt Macht," which means
"Unity makes strength"
and "Nisi Dominus Frustra," which translates "Except the Lord builds the house,
they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1) which appropriately expresses our hope in God.

Our Community
Our community has a new waste water treatment system constructed and in operation, and all of the businesses
and homes in the project district are connected. The construction of this
system has made it possible for the construction of the Palatine Manor Senior Housing project to become
a reality. Construction of the project access road to begin on February 18, 1998, and it is now over 60 percent completed.
This project will benefit many of the elderly of the surrounding area when it is ready for occupancy later this fall.
If you would like information about Palatine Manor, please write to:
Palatine Manor, P.O. Box 122, Germantown, NY 12526.
Our sincere thanks to the members of our church who worked
hard to make this project a reality!
