About the Pastor

Rev. Derrick T. Simmons is a native of Gary, Indiana. He accepted his call into the ministry while attending St. Mark AME Zion Church in East Chicago, Indiana under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Kenneth Arrington. In 1999, Bishop Enoch B. Rochester (now deceased) assigned him to pastor the first church in the Tennessee Conference of the AME Zion Church, First AME Zion Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. After serving six years in that pastorate, in 2005 the late Bishop Milton A. Williams assigned him to pastor here at Daniel Chapel AME Zion Church. Pastor Simmons is a graduate of Western Michigan University. He has a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL. He also has a Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. Pastor Simmons has brought about a tremendous season of revitalization, both spiritually and temporally. The people worship the Lord, Jesus Christ, in high spirits every Sunday, as the Word goes forth with power and clarity from this mighty man of God. Pastor Simmons is married to Debra Simmons and they have two sons, Derrick II and Bradford.

The worship experience at Daniel Chapel is both meaningful and powerful. With one of the most powerful preaching and teaching ministries available in the Chicago area, all worshippers (members and visitors) are allowed to touch and feel the God we serve.

The tradition of Worship is not lost in our Comtemporary Service. We focus our worship experience on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is worthy and awesome. We enter into His presence, feel His love, and celebrate His goodness.

Come join us in a meaningful, empowering, and fulfilling time with God. Feel God's Spirit energize and renew your life. Accept the gift of Salvation provided through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

Come celebrate with us in our Church Anniversary as we celebrate 71 years of service to the Christian community, being held on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. On October 12, 2009 we will also celebrate our Pastor's 4th Anniversary at Daniel Chapel. Come share with us as we honor him in a worship experience followed by a grand celebratory dinner!
