The Mission and Purpose of the Church</h3>
The Mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional, and
environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed. At every level of the
Connection and in every local church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the
original Free African Society, out of which the A.M.E. Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and serve the
needy through a continuing program of :

(1) preaching the gospel,<BR>
(2) feeding the hungry,<BR>
(3) clothing the naked,<BR>
(4) housing the homeless,<BR>
(5) cheering the fallen,<BR>
(6) providing jobs for the jobless,<BR>
(7) administering to the need of those in prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, caring for the sick, the shut-in, the mentally and
socially disturbed, and<BR>
(8) encouraging thrift and economic advancement.<BR>

Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
It’s May 2008. We have come this far by “FAITH!” During this month, we commemorate Mother’s Day. The history of Mother’s Day goes back as far as the 1600’s. The first official recognition of the holiday was by West Virginia in 1910. A proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day was signed by U.S. president Woodrow Wilson on May 14, 1914. A tradition calls for the wearing of carnations on Mother's Day—a red one if one's mother is alive, and white if she has died. As we celebrate “Mother’s Day” let’s acknowledge, appreciate, and honor our MOTHERS. We thank God for all Mothers and celebrate their true spirit of love, nurture, compassion, leadership, and patience. Build partnerships between parents or single parents, children, and other relatives, with love and strong community support! Respect those women who do not have children of their own, but they love and support the children of others.
Honor each and every expressions of motherhood---as a glimmer of God’s grace. Happy Mother’s Day 2008!!!
This month, we celebrate “Graduations” too. Many of our relatives and friends will experience the joy of completing high school or college, and they will embark upon new eras of their lives. They need our prayers and support. Let’s not forget them. We salute the “Graduates of 2008!” CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Also, John and I would like to thank you for allowing us to serve you for 8 years. It is our prayer that God continues to give us serenity and joy in our walk, wisdom and knowledge in our goals, and clarity and discernment in our life’s challenges! We love you! God bless you!
