Prophet/Teacher James C.McGill is Mrs. Carolyn M. Holmes' second sibling and eldest son. Pastor McGill was raised in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Mary A.M.E. Church when he was eight years old. Pastor McGill was educated in the Upson County School System and joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school. Upon his return from the military, he attended the Extension of Turner Theological Seminary at Steward Chapel A.M.E. Church of Macon, Georgia and Gordon Junior College in Barnesville, Georgia. Pastor McGill continued on to Mercer University where he was awarded a Bachelors of Arts, Behavioral Science degree.
Pastor McGill accepted his calling to the ministry in October 1974. For approximately 32years he has pastored and preached throughout the Six Episcopal District of Georgia. In the Macon Annual Conference and the Macon District, he has served as the pastor for Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church (Kathleen, Georgia), Perry Chapel and Davis Chapel A.M.E. Churches (Perry, Georgia),St. James and St. John A.M.E. (Macon, Georgia) and Fambro Chapel A.M.E. Church (Macon). In the Griffin District of the Macon Georgia Annual Conference, Pastor McGill also pastored at Pleasant Grove, Jordan Chapel and Crease A.M.E. Churches (Musella) Fairfield and Friendship A.M.E. (Jackson), St. Paul A.M.E. (Juliet) and Gray Chapel A.M.E. (Thomaston}. In the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference, East District, he pastored Cargel Chapel A.M.E. (Social Circle); Southwest Georgia Annual Conference, Central District he was pastored at New Bethel A.M.E. Church of Columbus and Bethel A.M.E. Church of Cussetta, Georgia.
Pastor McGill has been married to Mrs. Linda Ann Napier for the past 31 years and was blessed with one daughter, Mrs. Kornisha Latrice McGill-Brown, a son-in-law, Dr. Darius Brown MD, and lovely grand children, Jordan Janay Brown and Darius Brown,Jr. .
Pastor McGill's motto is, "Man may be interested in filling up buildings, yet God is concerned with filling up heaven. In the Macon, Georgia Annual Conference, he was the recipient of the Butt County Men of Action "Preacher of the Year Award," and the Thomaston Mill's, "The Georgia Textile Citizen of the Year Award." In the Southwest Georgia Annual Conference, he was recognized as "Preacher of the Year for Outstanding Growth at New Bethel A.M.E. Church." Pastor McGill served for twelve years on the Thomaston Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and seven years as a member of Thomaston-Upson County Recreation Commission. With the late Mr. James Calvin Bank, he co-foundered the Upson Men of Action to assist troubled youth
Celebration of Friendship A.M.E. Church of Jackson, Georgia 149th Anniversary: "With dwindling membership, keeping faith in the Almighty, and being led by Rev. J.C. McGill a new church structure were erected beside the old structure. On Homecoming Day in August in 1988, Rev. McGill led the entire church congregation by marching into the new building.
