Calvary Baptist Church was formed in 1985. The church purchased property soon thereafter and
constructed its first building. In 1987 the first service was held in the new building.
Harold Nelson served as the first pastor of this new work. Along with his wife Jean, the Nelsons
led the work for four and one half years. Carl Thomason temporarily assumed the role of pastor
for one year in 1989. On the first Sunday of September 1990 Dwayne Batten began his ministry at CBC
and remains till present.
Calvary is an independant church. It belongs to no organization, acting autonomously in all functions.
Doctrinally, Calvary holds to the historic Baptist Distinctives. We believe that:
1) The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.
2) God is One, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3) Jesus Christ is the virgin-born Son of God and our Lord and Savior.
4) Jesus died a substitutional and atoning death through His shed blood.
5) Jesus was resurrected bodily, ascended into heaven, and His return is imminent.
6) The present ministry of the Holy Spirit is indwelling and empowering.
7) Salvation is through acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Saviour.
8) The modern Charismatic Movement is not consistent with the teachings of the Word of God.
Our message is short and simple.
1) Life is Short, James 4:14
2) Death is Sure, Romans 6:23
3) Sin is the Cause, Romans 5:12
4) Christ is the Cure, John 1:12
Calvary is organized to take Christ to a lost and dying world through the organization and development
of its Sunday School ministry. The church meets in small groups to study the Word of God where all are
challenged to allow the message of God's Word to live through them individually.
Our pastor is a member of the Free Preacher's Fellowship. His ministry of Freedom in Christ is exemplified
in the lives and ministry of each person who is a part of Calvary. Our mission statement tells what our
ministry is all about. "BELIEVING IN THE INERRANT WORD OF GOD, CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH WILL PRAYERFULLY BE
A WITNESS TO THE WORLD, LIVE HOLY LIVES, EDIFY THE CHURCH BODY AND TEACH BELIEVERS TO WORSHIP GOD."
