The Congregational United Church of Christ, organized under the Laws of Dakota Territory as a not-for-profit corporation on August 18, 1881, is a diverse community gathered for worship and mission, learning and discipleship, and fellowship. Located at the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and Kimball Street in Mitchell we invite you to make our architecturally accessible and carefully maintained historic brick building your church home. We are, obviously, much more than the church building, as we strive to be the "church of the open door", welcoming all people into our congregation to we celebrate the diversity that contributes to the richness of the tapestry that is the Body of Christ. As a "mainline" Protestant church we, like our brothers and sisters in other denominations, continually face the challenges of modern social change. Our goal is to boldly face forward and address new ideas, new needs, and new situations, yet not abandon our rich, historic past, seeking to advance in the 21st Century the 17th Century charge of Pastor John Robinson to the Pilgrims setting forth on the Mayflower to the New World - "God hath yet more light and truth to break forth from God's Holy Word." We do believe that God is still speaking and His words have resounding strength for today and days to come!
This is an exciting faith community, led by God's Spirit in the way of Jesus Christ. We're thankful for all who are already among us, and we extend a warm invitation to any who are seeking to develop - or further develop - a meaningful and joyous faith!
As we live out our calling as a church of Jesus Christ, we strive to be a place where:
In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, diversity; in all things, charity. We are in the tradition of the Protestant Reformers, and we are continually seeking to find new ways of understanding and communicating the Christian faith. The best summary of our beliefs is in our UCC Statement of Faith .
