<dd>Although it carries its ethnic related name, HKBP, the Batak's
Protestant Church is actually a congregation of Christians from many
different segments of the Indonesian society, regardless of their
ethnics and locations. It is a congregation of those who have been
baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit.<br>
<p>
Church -as always - is a manifestation of the body of Christ into
which believers from all over the world are united.<br>
<p>
HKBP was founded in 1861, and was officially recognized by the Dutch
Government decree no. 48, dated on June 11, 1931. This letter of
recognition was published and included in the Staatsblad No. 360 in
1932.<br>
<p>
Recognition from the Government of The Republic of Indonesia was given in the
Indonesian Government letter No. Dd/P/DAK/d/135/68, dated April 2,
1968. A further recognition of the Indonesian Government was given
through the letter No. 33 from the Ministry of Religion office, dated
6 February 1988.</b><br><p>

<dd>Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) adalah wadah persekutuan dari orang yang berasal dari segala kelompok, kalangan dan suku bangsa yang berada di seluruh Indonesia, serta di seluruh dunia ini, yang dibabtiskan ke dalam nama Allah Bapa, Anaknya Tuhan Yesus Kristus dan Roh Kudus.<br>

<dd>Gereja itu adalah suatu perwujudan nyata dari Tubuh Kristus, yang menyaksikan kesatuan orang percaya di seluruh dunia ini.<br>

Berdiri sendiri, sesuai dengan pengakuan Pemerintah melalui surat keputusan tgl. 11 Juni 1931 No.48 yang dimuat pada <b>Staatsblad</b> tahun 1932 No.360.<br>

Pengakuan ulang pemerintah Republik Indonesia tgl.2 April 1968, No. : Dd/P/DAK/d/135/68., Pengakuan Ulang Pemerintah RI Cq. Dep. Agama RI. No.33 Tgl. 6 Februari 1988.<br>
