THE MOST-ASKED QUESTIONS IN A JOB INTERVIEW
(Before beginning the memorization process, determine the job for which you wish to interview, review the job specifications (Internet or Library) for that job. Identify four (4) of the primary job skills that you have which will fit that particular job).
(LIST YOUR SKILLS RELATED TO THE JOB)
1) ____________________________________
2) ____________________________________
3) ____________________________________
4) ____________________________________
✤
1) TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF.
(List the four skills you have that relate to the job).
✤2) IN WHAT TYPE OF POSITION ARE YOU MOST INTERESTED?
(Say the Job title).
✤
3) WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD LIFE TO WORK FOR OUR COMPANY?
(List your skills again, and say: “I feel I’ll have a chance to use my job skills here”).
✤4) WHAT JOBS HAVE YOU HELD, HOW WERE THEY OBTAINED, AND WHY DID YOU LEAVE?
(Many interviews will not include this question. Perhaps the interviewer will have review your application. Often the interviewer -or panel- will not have read the application. You should know the skills you have used on other jobs and how some of them relate to the job for which you are being interviewed. Work you have done at home or as a volunteer counts, so please include it).
(If you left your last job due to an injury, now is the time and place to deal with that issue in a concise manner. “I left that job due to an injury to my [blank]. I have successfully completed a rehabilitation program, and I know I can do this job).
✤
5) WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT COMPANY?
(This question will eliminate applicants who know nothing. Thus, you should look up the firm in the Yellow Pages or on the Internet. Ask your friends what they might know. Call the Chamber of Commerce and ask. Your library might help. Check out similar firms too. Three or four brief facts will do).
✤
6) WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS ON SALARY?
(Learn the actual salary. Tell the interviewer XXX per hour [or month or year]. If you need a certain amount to make ends meet, do not state an amount that is less. NOTE: 40 hours a week = 2010 hours per year).
✤
7) WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD LIKE THIS PARTICULAR JOB?
(This question is the same as #3 and a bit like #1) Use answer #3 and do not concern yourself about being repetitive).
✤
8) CAN YOU GET RECOMMENDATIONS FROM PREVIOUS EMPLOYERS?
“Yes.” (...and then close your mouth. The interviewer will move along to the next question).
✤
9) WHAT INTEREST YOU ABOUT OUR PRODUCT (OR SERVICES)?
(Same as #3 again. Same answer too).
✤
10) ARE YOU LOOKING FOR PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT?
(Tell the truth and keep it to 1 or 2 words. I personally had good luck in college by saying, “I plan to work here for two years, until I graduate”).
✤
11) DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE COMPANY OR THE JOB?
(Ask one or two questions that are non-threatening
a. “How long as the company been in this location?”
a. “How does business look for the next year?”
b. “What makes people come to work in the morning other than the money?”)
✤
12) HAVE YOU EVE HAD YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE REVOKED?
“No.”
✤
WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU FOR THE JOB RATHER THAN ANYONE ELSE?
(List your skills again and say: “..and I know I can do the job.”
