Hope Development Volunteers is running a skills, talents, culture and hospitality exchange program - In return for your volunteer help; Our African hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about their lifestyles.
All our programs involve volunteering with local families around Africa in exchange for free meals and accommodation. This is a fact that money shouldn’t stand in your way and stop you from travelling and giving back to the communities in need.
This is a great opportunity for long-and short-term budget travelers. Many families are willing to host volunteers for a few weeks or even a few days. It does mean spending part of your vacation working, but if you’re interested in cultural travel and language exchange, traveling doesn’t get much more local than literally living with a local family and sharing in their daily activities.
We connect people who want to volunteer in Africa with people who are looking for volunteer help.

This pre-primary school is in a rural village in Mukono district, Uganda and its serving 120 children and these are Orphaned and Vulnerable children. This school was started in 2013 by a local 22 year old village girl who is a professional nursery teacher.
Since most of the school children are vulnerable, they contribute almost nothing and so this young lady juggles with the three classes alone and sometimes a few other local volunteers come in for a day or two and international volunteers also come in to give a helping hand.
The objective of this school is to contribute to the academic development of children in order to provide the best opportunity for them to receive quality education.
A volunteer can support the local teacher; encourage children to learn and play and instill pride in their schooling.
The school provides classes to children aged 3yrs-9yrs. A volunteer can help with teaching English and other subjects. Teaching experience is not required. You can begin as a teaching assistant and then work in small groups with children in need of extra attention.
Volunteers can assist with the physical upkeep of the school; painting, decorating, mending desks etc. Most important volunteers should try to develop activities/programs that can be sustained in the future. Prior teaching experience is not required; volunteer simply need an open mind, caring spirit and a compassionate nature.
A volunteer can contribute from one week to 12 weeks of service, first of all its free to work with this project. No Program fee required.

You don’t have to be a teacher to volunteer on our Teaching projects abroad. There is no need to have a TEFL qualification to gain work experience in any of our African destinations. You don’t even need to speak the local language where you are going. The program is open to all volunteers whether you are on a gap year, at university or wanting a career break. All we require is a good standard of spoken English.
