Founded in 1993 by Sheila Mellick, a lay religious worker, this small grassroots organization is founded on Church teaching on the need and importance of identifying one's spiritual gifts and personal vocation (Vatican II concept). Due to lack of funding and grants to date, the tax-exempt organization primarily offers "You Are Called & Gifted Workshops" for youth and adults. Sheila's authored/published 33-page booklet, "Uniquely His," is used with adult groups and is available for $8.00 from the above address. It also includes a spiritual gift inventory which makes it great for small group study. Workshops and programs for youth include identification of their motivational gifts which is also linked to 180 job occupations. Sheila wishes to take her program "on the road" starting the spring of 2000 if any parishes, groups, organizations are interested.
Several members and associates of CCSM (in Utica, NY) are not blessed fiancially and depend on donations to make their call to (do) something more possible. An association for lay vocations would also loved to be formed if church leadership or others also believe the timing is right for this. There many ways you can assist and support us and our cause. We are dedicated to promoting this neglected Church teaching, particularly as found in "I Will Give You Shepherd" and "The Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People." Did you know that the former describes personal vocation as "... a personal and unrepeatable life project" which the Father entrusts to each one of us! We can also better identify the unique call by first identifying our spiritual gifts (special graces) because the gifts serve the vocation and make the fulfillment of it possible. Let us hear from you!
