ANTIOCH BAPTIST CONVENTION OF SONORA STATE, MEXIC

The Antioch Baptist Convention of Sonora (similar to a state convention in the US)unites churches from the Arizona border to the Sinaloa border 500 miles south. Our purpose is to better glorify God by uniting our efforts for evangelism, missions, Christian education and fellowship on the state level and to cooperate nationally through the Mexican National Baptist Convention (the equivalent of the SBC).
Sonora is a great challenge to Baptist work, being one of the states of Mexico with the least Baptist or Evangelical presence. We may be the only state in Mexico with no Southern Baptist missionary presence. Only 1% of the population of Hermosillo (THE STATE CAPITAL OF 1,000,000) are Evangelical Christians.
It is urgent that we make greater efforts to spread the Gospel of Jesus here. The state's mixture of prosperity with extreme poverty plus historic isolation from the rest of Mexico and the US has left it as something of a difficult last frontier for Baptist work in Mexico.
We thank God that for a recent revival of love and spirit of evangelism which is opening a new era of work and growth among our churches. The Antioch Convention and its churches are receptive to cooperation with Baptist churches or conventions in the US for construction or evangelism trips, joint mission ventures, sister-church programs, or whatever else may be the Lord's will.

+ Pray for Pastor Jonathan Ramirez of San Ignacio BC and the new mission in Hacienda Vieja among the Mayo Indians which he began in November.
+ Pray for encouragement and support for brother Felipe Ramirez and the Hermosa Mission which he leads in an extremely poor section of Hermosillo.
+ Pray for pastors for Peniel BC (Hermosillo), Emmanuel BC (Guaymas), FBC (Hermosillo), and several missions.
