Grace-Oriented Church

A grace-oriented church is a body of believers in Jesus Christ who have realized that their own works and traditions could not get them to Heaven. And, in addition to that they have come to accept that their own personal and religious traditions do not make them more attractive to God. Therefore, they rely on God's Word and God's grace to teach them and change them into the Christian God desires them to be. A grace-oriented church always puts Jesus Christ in the preeminent position among the body, never a man. A grace-oriented church believes that love and unity among the believers is vital for a positive testimony. A grace-oriented church allows for people to grow in their relationship with Christ, to find healing from emotional and religious abuse of the past, to serve according to their God-given talents. A grace-oriented church allows God to change people according to His plan and purpose not ours.

The Goal of a Christian

Have you ever wondered what a Chistian is supposed to look like? Much religious teaching gives us a long list of rules to follow, most of them are man-made rules not found in the Bible. What God does though is different. He gave us the law as a standad of righteousness and then showed us that we could not keep it. When we honestly admit our failure to live up to God's standard God shows us Jesus His Son. He kept the law perfectly and by faith in Him we are given His righteousness and set free from the law. God then begins a life-long project on the believer in Christ, it is found in Romans 8:29, God is conforming us or molding us into the image of His Son. (See also 2 Corinthians 3:18). So to answer the question, what is a Christian supposed to look like? A Christian is to look like Christ. The major character traits of Jesus Christ are love, mercy, forgiveness, and compassion. As we mature in Christ these are some of the things that become more prevalent in our life. Isn't that what we really want, not more religion but to be more like Christ? Finally, 1 John 3:2b says, "when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." What a glorious day and eternity that will be!
