Pastor Colter has had many adversities in his life, but he used them to the glory of God. He was stricken with typhoid fever at a young age and was sent home to die. He could not see, hear or walk, but thanks to a saved praying mother, those once deaf ears heard the calling of Jesus Christ, with those once blinded eyes he read the word of God, an with those once lame legs he now carries the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is a saved, filled with the Holy Spirit, and a dedicated man of God. He was a Police Officer for 15 years until his medical retirement. Never having to use his weapon he has talked people from committing crimes, using drugs and from committing suicide, yet, always witnessing to them about Jesus Christ. He has a BS Degree in Personnel Management from N.A.U., a Masters in Counseling from the University of Phoenix; a Certificate of Completion from Ambassador Bible College and a Portfolio Doctor of Arts in Ministry from Rochville University in New York. He believes in serving and teaching people the word of God. He has taught his members: 1)How to bring messages 2)How to conduct service properly 3)How to disagree without arguing 4)How to love each other in spite of our differences. These are just a few things our Pastor does. He accepts no offerings from the church, but he does make sure his members are provided for. He is an avid reader of the word of God and is constantly studying and teaching what he has learned. We love our Pastor deeply because he can chastise us in a way that we do not become angry and that lets us know he loves us. He is an Author: Is Mr. God Bigger than my Daddy; God Love, Bebe, too and Toeboys Growing Up. These books can be purchased through Barnes and Noble & Amazon.com; using the author's name: Lacey Colter Sr. "Codas."
I am a native of Tucson, Arizona, born Shirley R. Davis on February 22,1948. I am the oldest of 13 children. I have 5 living sisters and 1 brother, six brothers along with my mother and father are deceased. While attending Pueblo High School at the age of 14, I met my husband Lacey Colter Sr. then 16. We married 5 years later on August 13, 1967. We have 3 daughters and I son, and our eldest grandson whom we have adopted. Along with my 4 children, I raised my 2 younger sisters, Karla who is an LPN lives in South Carolina with her husband and 3 children, and Karen who is an Airplane Mechanic Supervisor for the Navy lives in Blackjack Missouri with her husband and 2 children. It was my wonderful husband that introduced me to the COGIC way of life and I love it. I have learned from experience, but taught by the Holy Ghost. I have learned about the power of prayer from Mother Maudie Ree Gossett- Smith, one of the most anointed and spiritual women I know. I have witnessed the dead being brought to life, cancer being healed, blood problems being cured. "No," it has not been an easy journey, but I have learned and grown and would not take "anything" for my journey. As First Lady I give to the people, and I ask for no offerings. I work right along with everyone, and there is nothing to big or small I will not do. I have no special place to sit; I am just Sister Colter. Titles do not make a person; but the content of the hearts counts. If I am acknowledged it is because they love me. A church should be a family; everyone loving and caring and knowing the needs and desires of the other. "Oh, how powerful we can become!" Our prayer at Sahuarita is that our church become a hospital for everyone: broken hearts, broken spirits and broken bodies. We have seen it coming to fruition. It is because God is our source at Sahuarita. Without God we can do nothing, but with God, "all things are possible."
