Christians at the Germiston Church of Christ believe in the God of the Bible. The Bible, the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), is our only guide in what is taught and practiced (John 12:48). The Church of Christ in the 21st century is not a denomination, but a direct continuation of the Lord's church established in the 1st century on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:41,47). Just as people in the first century became Christians upon obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we at Germiston are Christians only by obedience to the same gospel. Obedience to Christ's gospel consists of the following steps: Hearing and learning the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:17). Believing that Christ is the Son of God (Hebrews 11:6, John 6:40), he came to earth (John 1:14), died on a cross to pay the price of death for our sins (1 John 2:2, 1 John 4:10), was resurrected (Matthew 16:21), and is now reigning in Heaven (Matthew 16:19, Hebrews 12:2). Repenting of one's sins (Luke 13:3), realizing disobedience to God's law (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, 1 John 3:4) and being determined to follow His teachings throughout life (Romans 6:1-7). Confessing publicly that Jesus is the Son of the God (Matthew 10:32, Romans 10:10) Being baptized (immersed in water) for the remission of one's sins (Romans 6:1-7, Acts 8:35-39) Remaining faithful until death (Rev 2:10). Just as New Testament people became Christians and were added to Christ's church by obeying these steps (Acts 2:47), people today can do the same, and belong to the same church.
