Elder Rudoplh V.Bates founded Bethesda Church of God In Christ the first Sunday in September 1954. The church was named New Jerusalem and the first service was held in the living room for a few months then the Lord blessed the church to move to a store front on 7th and Reservoir that seated 40 congregants. The Lord began saving souls and adding to the church. Two years later, the church moved to another store front on 15th and Juneau. The church was then changed to Bethesda Church of God In Christ and incorporated on August 22, 1961. Bethesda Church of God In Christ, Inc., moved to 26th and North Avenue in December of 1964. Pastor Bates, along with his wife, Mother L.P. Bates, have planted seeds over the past 50 years. As Bethesda Church spread the news of Salvation, we are also concerned about the physical man and his daily needs. With our new location, we are determined to do even greater works and reach more souls through our Outreach Ministry Program.
