We are a Church in Malawi-Africa Zambezi Evangelical Church (here after ZEC) traces its historical roots in the 19th century activities of Faith Missions (themselves a direct result of the 19th century 2nd Great Awakening). It was founded by the Australian Baptist Missionary by the name Joseph Booth in 1892. ZEC is nevertheless the first Evangelical Church in Malawi. In Faith and practice ZEC is Baptist. Current statistics indicate that we have a membership of over 200,000 across Malawi, 500 congregations led by a pastoral team of 160 (Pastor and Evangelists). We also have sister churches in Mozambique (30), Zambia (2) and Zimbabwe (1). God has been gracious to us in that through our various departments, all Evangelism focused, Gods work is steadily growing here in Malawi.
1. EVANGELISM AND CHURCH PLANTING DEPARTMENT ZEC sorely exists to proclaim the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thus we believe that Evangelism constitutes the heartbeat of any authentic Christian Church. This department therefore reflects our primary commitment. Our Lord Jesus says,"Go and make disciples of all nations" ?(Matt 28:20) 2. MEDICAL SERVICES DEPT The preaching of the word is supplemented by social action. This department reflects ZEC social concern for the suffering, our medical services endeavor to demonstrate the love of Christ for the sick. 3. WOMEN DEPARTMENT By all standards women are the most under privileged in Malawi as such this department is committed to their empowerment, physically and spiritually. ZEC has a nation wide women guild called Chiyanjano cha Amayi (Women Fellowship). 4. YOUTH DEPARTMENT This department focuses on discipleship among the youth. It has about 20,000 active youth across ZEC Churches. Its main activities include, Bible studies, intercessions, conference and seminars, retreats, sports Evangelism, music etc. 5. EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ZEC believes education is key to national development which in turn has an impact on the development of the church as well. Our main focus/ passion is to provide quality education with Christian values in a Christian environment. 6. RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT DERPATMENT The department is committed to providing relief aid where needed (eventualities) and community development initiatives. Through the department orphans, widows, the aged, the poor, HIV/AIDS victims, flood victims, the hungry etc have received various forms of assistance. On the other hand, it has the following programmes on its cards; Home based orphan care, Re-forestation, Adult literacy and food security. However it has plans to diversify with the availability of funds. CONCLUSION Overall, ZEC is committed to see the kingdom of God grow in Malawi and beyond through the above initiatives and others. We believe God to provide all our needs. You are welcome to work with us in partnership. We are thirsty for your prayers and any support to any of our departments. Those willing to sacrifice their individual services (Missionaries in Vocational training, nurses, teachers, field workers etc) are welcome to do so. May the good Lord bless you.
