EAGLE WINGS began in 1988 in Seattle, Washington, as Seattle Intertribal Alliance Church. In recent years, realizing the underlying needs of Native People, the ministry developed with a serious focus on addressing issues of past abuse. Native People have the highest rate of alcoholism of any people group in North America. Along with that, they also have the highest rate of abuse - emotional, physical, and sexual - which tends to go hand-in-hand with the alcoholism. We have found that only Jesus Christ can truly heal the past wounds of abuse, both from growing-up in alcoholic homes, as well as the generational effects of the past historic abuse from the European conquest of the Native Peoples of North America.
Counseling: a developing staff of Native and trained non-Native ounselors, with a specific training in abuse counseling. Healing of memories: counseling through healing prayer sessions, as a process of healing from past abuse, in the Spirit of Christ. Native-style discipleship: Christian discipleship contextualized in certain aspects of Native Peoples culture, lifestyle, and worldview. Development of a live-in, residential ministry for intensive counseling, discipleship, and addiction recovery (in progress)
