The British Eparchy of the Celtic Orthodox Church is a native, Western, and Autocephalous (self-governing) Orthodox Church for Britain. We are a communion within the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by our Lord Jesus Christ; teaching and proclaiming the Faith and Worship received from Christ in unbroken faithfulness to the present day. The very heart and soul of the British Eparchy is found, as in all Orthodox Churches, within its worship. This worship finds its highest and ultimate expression in the Divine Liturgy. This service, instituted by Our Lord Himself at the Last Supper encompasses His Nativity, Cross, Resurrection, Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. In our Churches the Liturgy used is that of the ancient Church of Jerusalem, the Liturgy of Saint James. It may be the oldest Liturgy and is the most venerable form of the Eucharistic service. In the early days of pilgrimage to the Holy City pilgrims were impressed by the splendour of this early rite. The Liturgy is offered in English.
