One Hundred years ago, Saint John Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, was founded. The original name of the church was Lovick's Chapel, but years later was changed to Saint John. The first pastor was Elder Leaser Hargett.

Ministers and the order of their pastorate at Saint John include Elder Joe Rouse, Elder L.S. Britt, Bishop C.E. Williams, Bishop Jesse L. Harper, Elder A.M. Cogdell, Elder D.C. Artis, Elder Calvin H. Boykin, Bishop James I. Melvin, Elder James E. Watts, Elder Sidney Crudup, Elder Floyd D. Burney, Elder Samuel D. Brown, District Elder Clarence W. Branch, and Pastor Cleophus Gooding. We thank God for our present pastor, Elder Derrick Chapman.

Aim & Plea

Congregation: We, the Disciples of Christ, wishing to be in complete accord and agreement with the doctrine of Christ, set for the following principles, which have been the focus of the Church for more than a century.
Minister: General aim of the Church.
Congregation: Restoration of the New Testament teachings and practices.
Minister: Plea of the Church.
Congregation: No creed but Christ, no book but the Bible; no name but the Divine.
Minister: Where the Bible speaks, we speak.
Congregation: Where the Bible is silent, we are silent.
Minister: In essentials unity.
Congregation: In nonessentials, liberty; in all things, charity.
