A HISTORICAL GLIMPSE
The Wise Street Church Of God and Christ began around the year of 1935.It was preach out and establishted by Elder White,his wife and son. He remained with the mission for 5 years. After he left, Elder Burley Lafleur serve as pastor from 1941 to 1948 leaving afterward. The Elder Robert Price Senior,a member and very dear friend of Elder Young then,with his wife and family . went to Baton Rouge the March convocation of 1948 to ask for a pastor. Bishop S. Lazard wanted to know if the members had a choice.Eld.Price told the bishop that Elder Young was their choice. It has been a long and uphill journey but the Lord was There as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I can remember when the membership was fw and the pastorial offering was a jar of pears. Mother E. Price, who gave me the jar of pears, would always say, "Eld. Young, be strong and of good courage, the Lord will make a way". The Lord has made way. The chruch has grown. Four pastors have evolved from this church as well as ministers, missionaries, evangelists and many souls saved and filled with the precious Holy Ghost. The church truly has been blessed. Supertindent Freeman Young Sr. Was born on December 8, 1919, to Martha Frazier and Sam Young in Pineville, LA. He was the youngest of his siblings. He attendend school at Kelso until the 7th grade and Leland Clooege in Baker, LA, where he finished his high school education and started a bachelors degree. Fifty years later, at the age of 77, he enrolled in the United Theological Seminary and Bible College in Alexandria, LA, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Theology. He believed that, "When a man meets God and discovers his puropse, nothing and nobody can stop him". He received the Holy Ghost at the age of 17 after joining the Holiness Church. He joined the Army in 1941 during WWII after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served almost four years. He became an ordained elder and pastored 56 years. The churches he pastored were located in Winnsboro, Oakdale, TaylorHill, Woodside, Glenmora, Lecompte and Alexandria ( Wise Street/Young Temple). District positions included Sunday School Superintendent, District Chairman, Finance Chairman and District Superintendent of District#6 for 13 years following Supt. A.C. Abram. State positions included assistant State Sunday School Superident, a member of the Board of Superintendents and a member of the Cateching Committe and Area Administrative Assistant. Superintendent Young went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 1:30 A.M. at VA Medical Center in Pineville, LA.
Statement From The Pastor
The previous years have been filled with much anxiety and apprehension. As we look back, we see that '96 was a year of much adjustment to say the least. In spite of all the changes and church endeavors, I am pleased to say that it was a strong year for the work of the church. Churches were renovated, souls were saved, backsliders were reclaimed and the sick were healed. With the arrival of the new year 1997, we look forward with new optimisim to serving the needs of our church and community. To do this, we plan to devise a strong team for labor(Luke 14:21-23). This will involve all of our auxilliary leaders, ministers, missionaries, elders, evangelists, educators, and laity. We need leaders to work together on a formula to generate and motivate the cause and to help build a positive attitude about our church. If we can work together in these endeavors, we will find solutions and provide answers for our membership.
