To be the Church

The gift of the Church was given to us on the day of Pentecost. In the Church are a variety of people with a variety of talents, viewpoints and needs. The diversity we embrace is the source of our strength. The Episcopal Church has a history of seeking unity among her members, not uniformity. Saint Anne believes in that goal. As the Church, we are to represent Christ, to bear witness to him wherever we find ourselves; and, according to the gifts, we have to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world; and to take our place in the life, worship and governance of the Church (BCP, p. 855). The primary work of the Church when she gathers together is the worship of God. The Sacraments (such as Baptism and The Lord's Supper) were given to the Church for encouragement, enjoyment, maturation, and God's grace. We come together each week to celebrate our union with Christ and our connection with all Christians living and dead. We at Saint Anne see the Church as called to prepare each person to live the life of faith in our family, work, and play. That is why we have Christian Education. The goal of our education is to enable us to be agents of God's Love and to grow in our Faith. The foundation of Christian Education is that of Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. The use of these three keeps us accountable to the Faith as passed down for two thousand years. The third goal of the Church is that of mutual love and support. As a part of the Body of Christ we are called to love one another as Christ loves us. We are a family, and so we give to one another, encourage and support each other in ways that help us celebrate the good times and grow in the bad times. The Church is a gift from God. Our call is to be the Church. Peace, Father Gerry Sevick, TSSF Rector
