A Shared Ministry in North Western New Brunswick

We are a community comprising two churches - St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, and St. Paul's United Church. We serve the English speaking Protestant community of Edmundston and surrounding communities. Since we are the first Protestant Church after Quebec City, we draw from as far away as Riviere du Loup, in Quebec, and we also have members who live in Maine. The Anglican Church is the oldest church building in the area, having been built in the last quarter of the 19th century. St. John the Baptist is a heritage church, with a bell tower that was donated by the Roman Catholic Cathedral. St. Paul's is a historic building, with a beautiful oak interior, and a fine Casavant organ. We are small in number but mighty in spirit.

An Ecumenical Ministry

As both Anglicans and Uniteds share a minister, there is a respect for the traditions of the other, while an intense love and valuing of their own tradition. Once a month, we have a joint service in which we worship together, using one or the other tradition, or combining the parts of the two traditions. The Edmundston community is historically and deeply ecumenical, with long roots of understanding and cooperation between Catholic and Protestant. We participate together in a Good Friday Ecumenical walk, in services for World Day of Prayer, the Day of Prayer for Christian Unity, and this year in a pre-Christmas "Longest Night" service for people who find Christmas a painful time.
