Mission Statement

1. We come together as a community to love and serve God and our neighbor, through the religious way, taught by our ancestors and our monastic brothers and sisters here now, as we understand them. 2. We choose to proclaim and affirm our sexuality in the presence of God and the powers that be. We intend, that as lesbian women and gay men of faith, in fellowship with our friends and families, to serve the community according to the breath of God and the vision of the universal Spirit. 3. We enjoy our common life in grace with gratitude and in the celebration of our love and aloneness. 4. We dedicate ourselves to the Worship of God, our Creator, and to the divine manifestations throughout the created order. 5. Wounded by an unjust exile, we hereby commit to recovering and liberating our true selves, through prayer, asceticism, social action, education and research. 6. We are a community of action, made strong by the contemplation of God and our personal and collective solitude. 7. We establish community for our joy, safety and common ministry to all in need, especially our fellow exiles of all races, sexes, creeds and conditions. 8. We choose the Angels as our guardians and providers of divine grace and protection. 9. We affirm our exile, no longer as victims of the churches and society or ourselves, but as friends of God, protesting the lack of fidelity within the churches. From our exile and in witness of said, we call upon the churches to realize our respective vocations as lights to the world. 10. We await our enlightenment as spiritual beings and are confident in the achievement, here and now, of God's Commonwealth. AMEN!

Community History

The Community of All Angels: Benedictines in Exile. The Community of All Angels was founded on May 8, 1992, Feast of Julian of Norwich, and was the life expression of our founder. The Community of All Angels is a self-governing body of spiritually minded adults following the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Rule of St. Benedict. The members come together to worship God and work out their liberation. The Community of All Angels is a monastic religious order for the gay and lesbian community, their friends and family, within the Judeo-Christian tradition. Special membership consideration is given to persons living with AIDS and others who have been excluded from traditional forms of religious life and church membership. The Community of All Angels does not intend to speak for anyone in the gay and lesbian community or in the religious community except by the representation of its members in those communities. At the same time, we acknowledge our interdependence with both communities and seek to be of maximum service to both through our prayer of atonement and reconciliation.
