CHURCH HISTORY
The Church began with Elder E. L. Coats as Pastor. We were known as "The Sixth and Laird, Church of God in Christ." After the death of Elder Coates, the late Elder J.R. Sapp came preaching and teaching God's word. Later, we relocated to Third and Geary, changing the name of our church to "Evangelist Temple, Church of God in Christ". On June 21th, 1984, we relocated to our present location. After the passing of Elder J.R. Sapp, God sent to us our Illustrious Leader, Dr. Levi L. Lenley, who now labors faithfully as our Pastor. As a tribute to the Late Elder J.R. Sapp, we changed the name of our church from Evangelist Temple, Church of God in christ to Greater Sapp Memorial, Church of God in Christ and we are presently known as Grater Sapp Institutional Church of God in Christ.
