Church History
Philippi Evangelistic Church of God in Christ also known as the heartbeat of God in the community pumping life, was founded in August 1984 by George H. Albert, Jr. The first members included the Pastor, his wife, and their six children.
The ministry was prayed and fasted out in the front part of their home. Before long, God began to send souls to be saved. Several years later, the ministry had to relocate to accommodate the increase in souls added to the church. Pastor Albert rented a church building as an immediate solution. However, a storm came and the strong winds caused the roof to cave in. Pastor Albert had to move the ministry back to his home. Nonetheless, God was still moving in Philippi's favor.
After going back to his home, Pastor George clearly knew that the building was too small. Therefore, his desire and vision to build God a house to house His people, intensified.
In 1998, this vision resulted in a building erected on North Claiborne Avenue that seats over 200 people.
Today the ministry is growing by leaps and bounds and after four years, there is a need to expand further.
God has truly blessed Philippi to be a Safe Haven and a Healing Ministry for Hurting People.
