Certainly a visionary, Rev. Dr. G. DeWayne Phipps is senior pastor and founder of one of the strongest, and rapidly growing, young congregations in the Rochester area. Educated at East Texas Baptist University, University of Maryland (Europe), Central Texas College, and the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, Pastor Phipps is a dynamic teacher and an excellent communicator of the Gospel. His simplistic, down to earth, and "matter of fact" teaching style, is both refreshing and powerfully effective. Lives continue to be transformed by the Word of God under the teaching of this anointed and faithful 21st Century preacher. Having over 21 years of preaching experience as a minister of the Gospel (sixteen of which were served as a Baptist minister and pastor), Pastor Phipps has an intense love for ministers, and an even more intense love for his congregation. He is a servant who often denies himself to enhance the growth and best interest of the church. Well liked in the community where he ministers among some of the toughest problems facing the inner city, Pastor Phipps likes to say, "This is no place for pretenders or the faint of heart, these people need Jesus, and Jesus needs these people, because no one can do what they were born and assigned to do, except them." Pastor Phipps was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity for life achievement. He has preached extensively across America and in Europe. He is a former radio evangelist for the Texas Baptist Congress. Pastor Phipps was instrumental in assisting and advising the founding officers of the NAACP in Germany in 1989. As a television evangelist, Pastor Phipps is host of "A Walk In The Word" television broadcast; a weekly inner city cable television ministry program. He is married to the very beautiful, and gentle First Lady, (Reverend) Cherrise (Hillman)Phipps. Sister Phipps holds a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technologies and is a Corporate professional with an International Telecommunications Company. Pastor and Reverend Phipps have two children, Michelle and Tyler.
