WHAT WE BELIEVE A Statement of Faith for a large and diverse group of Christians is not a simple matter to write. Historically, the non-denominational Christian Churches and Churches of Christ have never prepared a creedal statement and do not ask their members to accept such a statement. From the earliest days of the Restoration Movement, we have adhered to a policy of "no creed but Christ." The following statement is a representative of "What We Believe," and should not be confused with an ultimate creedal statement. We are justified by our faith in the Person of Jesus Christ and our response to his Lordship. Beyond that, we hold that men are free to hold their own opinions in love for one another, and we do not have the right or desire to reject someone whose view differs from our own. We believe that God the Father is the Creator, Giver and Sustainer of all life, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Judge of all men. that Jesus is the Divine Son of God yet came in the form of man; we believe that his death provides the basis for the salvation of sinful man. We believe that he was born of a virgin, was raised from the dead by the power of God, and ascended into heaven where he now sits at the right hand of his Father. that the Holy Spirit is a personality like the Father and the Son and that he has come to the church today as the means of filling the church with power; we believe the Spirit continues to work in both the Christian and the world that the Bible is the Word of God, given to us through the power of God; and we accept the Bible as the source of our authority and practice within the church and in our daily lives. that man has chosen to sin and thus has brought condemnation upon himself; we believe that his only escape from his sinful condition is through the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. that the acceptance of God's forgiveness (grace) is a decision to be made. We believe that baptism is by immersion in water, demonstrating the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in our lives. that the Lord's supper should be celebrated "on the first day of the week." We provide the means by which all Christians may join together "in remembrance of Christ" by partaking of the Lord's Supper. in the imminent return of Jesus though we are not told of the time, we believe that we must be prepared at every moment. We believe that his judgment will be swift and sure, that there is both a literal heaven prepared for the redeemed and a place of torment reserved for Satan and those who have not accepted Jesus as Lord. that we are a part of the universal church in our local fellowship. We believe that the mission of the church is two fold; first, we believe it is our mission to "seek and to save the lost", and second, we believe that we are to grow to maturity as believers. We seek to provide both evangelistic as well as educational ministries . that our fellowship should be marked by the same love and forgiveness made available by God in Jesus; and though we are not perfect in that love and forgiveness, it is the goal of this congregation to become a haven for sinners seeking the "high calling of God in Jesus Christ."
OUR POSITION NO CREED BUT CHRIST NO BOOK BUT THE BIBLE Liberty Christian Church is a non-denominational church. It is one of many world-wide Churches of Christ and Christian Churches dedicated to restoring the simple Christianity that we read about in the New Testament. This is why we use the expression, "Where the Bible speaks, we speak; and where the Bible is silent, we are silent." In memory of our Lord, we celebrate the Lord's Supper every Sunday, as did the church in the New Testament. We invite all believers to participate. We believe that the Bible is the written, infallible inspired Word of God, our only rule of faith and practice. We believe that the Church is the Bride of Christ with Christ as the head. We believe that repentance, confession, baptism, and faithful service are all important in one's salvation. We practice baptism by immersion as demonstrated in the New Testament. Being an immersed believer in Christ is required for membership in our local congregation. Our goal for the brotherhood of believers is: In Matters of Essentials - Unity In Matters of Opinion - Liberty In All Things - Love
