Superintendent F.L Cunningham is the second son of Elder and Mrs. James F. Cunningham Sr. He was saved in the year of 1954 during a revival run by Bishop J.E. Williams of Chicago,IL. In 1956 he was introduced to the Church of God in Christ after being discharged from the Army. He then later became a member of Lee's Temple under the leadership of Superintendent Lee. He began his church work as a Jr. Deacon, and was promoted to General Sunday School Supt. He acknowledged his call in 1958 and was ordained in Detroit, Mich. in 1965. He became a close aid to the Pastor and shortly after became Pulpit Chairman. Elder Cunningham was a dedicated member until which time, the Lord spoke to him that he must go, for God had work for him to do. With great faith and having the will of the Lord in mind, he became the founder and organizer of Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. He is married to a wounderful saved woman, Mother Ann Cunningham, and they are parents of 5 children, Ricky, Barbara, Michael, Christine, and Frieda, and also have Grandchildren.
Pentecostal Temple, Church of God in Christ, was organized and founded by Elder F.L Cunningham at 1064 Kalamazoo Street, in the year of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-eignt. The first service held consisted of the Pastor, his mother, and his 5 children. As time moved on, they continued praising the Lord and were blessed finding favors with the people and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. His forst member was Miss Debra Ann Mahone, who was very faithful and a hard working member. She put on the first program for Elder Cunningham, and together, with the help of the Lord, they raised twenty-four dollars, which was the beginning of many charitable gifts from various people. Elder Cunningham, being a young pastor and eager to go forward in the Lord's work, began to look for a new site. In the year of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-nine, the Lord blessed him to purchase two lots at the corner of Abell and Kalamazoo Streets. On August tenth, Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-nine, his former pastor, Superintendent J.S. Lee, performed the official ground breaking for the new church. On the first Sunday of June, in the year of Nineteen Hundred and Seventy, we moved into the dining room area of our new church and were blessed to have our First Annual Day. The First Sunday of June, Nineteen Hundred and Seventy-two, we moved into the Sanctuary, where again Superintendent J.S Lee, preached a profound message where the Glory of the Lord filled the Temple. Our young people were very impressed that our Church was completed. Pentecostal Temple is not just a Church, but we like to geel that we are a family of God where everyone will feel welcome. It's dedicated as a beacon light for lost sould. We feel that Pentecostal Temple has not reached its lofty height, yet we are striving to reach our high calling which is in our Lord, Christ Jesus.
