Mount Zion C.M.E. Church is located in central Talladega County. It is a rural church with a city "mindset". This description was given to Mount Zion by the late Presiding Elder, Reverend W.W. Thomas. Mount Zion was founded in 1868 with the help of Risers Chapel Methodist (white) Church. Mount Zion provides a full array of activities and programs that include outreach ministries (prison, nursing home, television, meals on wheels, tutoring, and community assistance) in addition to all of the C.M.E. auxiliaries
