HISTORY OF McCONNELL'S CHAPEL

McConnell's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church sits atop Sandy Ridge overlooking the town of Jonesville, VA in Lee County. The church was organized in 1940 with members meeting in various homes throughout the neighborhood. The sanctuary was built in 1941 on property that Mrs. Alpha McConnell Johnson donated for the church site. In the 1960's, an addition was added to the original building to be used as Sunday School classrooms. The sanctuary was lengthened, carpet, new pews, and altar furniture was added in the 1970's. In 1999, an outside pavilion was added. The first pastor of this small, country church was Rev. S.S. Phipps. Our current pastor is Rev. Kevin W. Jerrell, who has been ministering to this congregation since December 1995.
