'IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE OUR SINS, AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS'(1 John 1:9) ~~~ To me, this is one of the most profound verses in the Bible, known by some as the Christians bar of soap. The key phrase to me is; 'If we confess our sins,....' After we become Christians things go bump in the night, we sin, we miss the mark. But, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness! As Paul the Apostle says in Romans 6:15 'What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.' Grace is not an excuse to sin, but thank God our sins are covered by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ if we confess them. As Roy Hession once wrote in 'The Calvary Road', 'To go deeper in the Christian life is to simply realize that we are bigger sinners than we ever thought and that Jesus is a bigger savior than we ever conceived him to be'.
