Since my arrival at St. Margaret in November of 2004, I have been most impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of our parishioners, from the very young, our teenagers, families and senior citizens as well as the local business community and their interest and support in improving the quality of life in our neighborhood.
Despite the many changes that Lowell has experienced throughout the years, St. Margaret has continued to serve this community with outreach and dedication to the many diverse racial and ethnic groups that currently reside here.
St. Margaret has always placed the needs of the people of our community first. This is as it should be.
Catholic education is essential to the life of St. Margaret Parish, as witnessed by the uninterrupted support of Catholic education since 1910. Catholic education is essential to the life of the Church, and Catholic education is essential to the life of our world.
Nearly 100 years ago, the dream of an alive, vibrant, faith-filled parish in the Highlands of Lowell began, and a vision of Catholic Education as the crowning work of the parish as it entered the 20th century.
The great crowning work of the parish was to be accomplished, namely the Catholic School for the education and proper training of the children of God. In this work there are three essential factors: the child created by God to know, love and serve Him; and the teacher who recognizes God's claim upon the child's mind, soul and body, and then the books and technology that help in the instruction. It is not the book or the words or the technology that teach and train the soul of the pupil. It is the voice of the teacher, the light of faith in their eyes, their manner of life, their trust in the great God which make up the true educators of mind and will and heart."
I feel privileged to be Pastor of St. Margaret Parish as we enter the 21st Century. This new century will be one of unparalled growth and development in our society, world and Church. Well-educated young women and men of faith will be essential for leadership and direction, both in our world society and in our emerging Church. This education is the mission of St. Margaret Parish through its grammar school.
In the names of my predecessors and my own name, the pastors of St. Margaret Parish thank God for the many dedicated religious, lay teachers and staff, who have given nearly 100 years of graces and blessings to our grammar school, parish, community, country and the world.
