Brief History 1

The Ebenezer AME Church is the founding congregation in the Windhoek PE District of the Namibia Annual Conference of the 15th Episcopal District. Although the AME Church was only officially organised on July 3rd, 1946 her isolated presence dates back to 1927 as first entries are recorded in Baptism and Wedding Registers. Its first site was in the Old Lokasie, but with the introduction of apartheid Group Areas Act the Church was forced to relocate to its present site under the leadership of Rev. B G Karuaera. The church was sometimes used to house meetings of indegineous opposition groups that wrote petitions to the United Nations. From the Ebenezer AME Church three new extensions were successfully established: the St. Andrews AME Church, Khomasdal in 1979, the Purity AME Church, Wanaheda in 1992 and the H B Senatle Metropolitan AME Church, Windhoek in 1997. The following pastors laboured faithfully and contributed to the successful ministries: Revs. Malashloe, Moshe Sephula, Johannes Jakobs, Bartholomew G. Karuaera, Erwin S. Tjirimuje, Andreas Biwa, William A. Balie, Hendrik Witbooi, Willem Simon Hanse, Gotthard B. Partenbach, Ismael P /Goagoseb and the present Rev. Albert E Biwa.

Mission-in-Mission

Our mission is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed. At Ebenezer, we are now reaching the 400 membership mark and we want to preach the gospel until all souls reachable are saved. Yes, we are involved in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and have a fulltime program ministering to those in Windhoek prisons, hospitals, mental institutions. We are taking the amen-corners to the street-corners - nothing is achieved unless souls are saved, and thats our core business. If you do not have a church home, we invite you to consider Ebenezer AME Church, for we want to take you in and equip you for service to God, neighbour and country.
