The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It is the authority for life and learning of God. More than just a record of history, the Bible is God's timely and timeless Word for us today with relevant answers to lifes questions and frustrations.
God is loving and compassionate yet holy and just. The "Trinity" is a word that describes the mystery how God is at the same time, one yet three eternally existent persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God's greatest desire is a close, loving relationship with every individual.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God born to a virgin. He lived a perfect, sinless life on earth devoting Himself to doing the will of His heavenly Father, ministering, teaching and preaching the good news of God's deliverance. He was crucified on a Roman cross, not for any crimes He had done, but to pay for the sins of all mankind past, present and future. When one accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior they accept Jesus' death as punishment and payment for their own sins. The good news is He arose from the dead on the third day and He lives today in Heaven at the right hand of God the Father making intercession for the saints.
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity and He comes to dwell within every person at the moment of salvation. He has the specific role of conviction of sin, comfort for suffering, guidance for life, as well as making personal application and inspiration of God's Word as we read and study it and thus revealing Jesus Christ to us.
Man was created in the image of God. That is, he is the only part of creation with the ability to reason and willfully choose between right and wrong and his course for life. The very first man and women (Adam and Eve) chose to reject God's plan for their lives and we each have followed in their footsteps. The rejecting and choosing to ignore God's plan is known as sin and results in alienation and seperation from Him. Unless a person stops this rejection and accepts Jesus Christ as the means for knowing God's plan for life he will experience eternal punishment and seperation from God now and after this life has ended.
Salvation from eternal seperation from God and punishment for sins is the result of trusting in God's plan of deliverance. It is not obtained by ones good deeds outweighing the bad, nor by ones goodness of character or life, but rather by faith in ones heart in God's love and forgiveness as expressed in Jesus Christ and His Lordship over all life.
A church in the truest sense is not a building, but a group of baptized believers who have joined together to serve, worship, praise and learn more about God. Sunday School is a time of graded classroom study of the Bible and application of Its truths to life. Worship services are times we gather to praise and worship God through singing, preaching, and responding to God's innvitation to commitment. It is not a meeting place for perfect people, but rather a gathering of folks who come to worship God and find answers for life.
Because we have found personal answers for our lives we are compelled by joy and the command of God to share with others who have not heard or responded to Him. This mission of the church begins in our own neighborhood amoung family and friends and extends literally to all the world. The Calvary Baptist Church cooperates with other Southern Baptist Churches to support approximately 10,000 missionaries in Bryan County, Oklahoma, the United States and around the world.
The work of the church is supported by the giving of tithes and offerings of its members. The support is freely given in order to provide needed staff, literature and supplies, buildings, ministeries for the church to carry out its mission.
The victory of Jesus over death is one in which we personally share. The victory over circumstances and even death itself is experienced in one of two ways. First, because of faith and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior we have Gods promise we will go to heaven at the moment of death. For Christians, death is not the end but a grand and glorious new beginning. Second is the promise of the return of Jesus. History is headed toward this conclusion. Jesus promised that He will take every Christian alive at this time, home to be with Him in heaven for all eternity.
At Calvary Baptist Church we have a varity of ministries and activities for all ages. Our Sunday School and Discipleship Training has graded classes for everyone. Senior adults are not left out at Calvary Baptist. Special trips are regularly planned as well as a weekly day of dominos and fellowship on Tuesdays.
