MESSAGES

Our Purpose

St. Mark 16:15 - And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ is not to obtain wealth but to "preach the gospel". Jesus taught us this in St. Mark 16:15. Many preachers today has abandoned this message for the more popular "Get rich quick message". The scriptures teach us to accumulate wealth in heaven. Matthew 6:10 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: Matthew 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: These scriptures do not teach us that we do not need money, because we do, one cannot function in this world without money, it is impossible. When I first got married my farther-in-law/Pastor told me "if you take care of God's business, God would take care of your business." Believe me. I've seen God make a way for my family and I many times. About ten years ago I accepted a teaching/preaching engagement in Newark, N.J. To talk about any subject of my choosing. I chose the subject "How to get out of debt!". To my surprise the seminar was packed with people with note books and yellow pads. They wanted to hear a ten step program detailing how to get out of financial debt. To their surprise the bible text I used was in Romans 1: 14-16 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.  15So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.    16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. The debt I taught about was not financial but spiritual debt. What Paul was conveying was that God's people are in debt to the unsaved. And the only way out of this debt was to preach the gospel to every unsaved person we came in contact with. By the way I did tell them if they wanted to get out of financial debt follow the 4 step program to financial freedom. 1. Give your tithes, 2. give your offerings, 3. preach the Gospel and 4. live within your means. By doing this the flood gates of heaven will open for you and yours. GET OUT OF DEBT!!! Pastor VL Lopez

FOCUS LOST

Losing focus does not mean that one cannot physically see it just simply means that one cannot see clearly. Many in the Church today have lost focus; no longer can see clearly; Jesus has given us the Great Commission, to preach the Good News to every person but a new Gospel has taken command of the minds of the Church, the Great Omission, the preaching of the money gospel, I have nothing against money, the Lord knows we need it to function in this world. But when getting money is more important then reaching souls with the gospel, we have lost focus. In St. Matthew 8:25-34 it says 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." To be focused is to place Jesus first in our lives; what concerns Jesus should concern us also. In our modern world it is easy to get sidetracked by it's many distractions. When we realize that Jesus is engulfed with our welfare, we should then be enveloped with His concerns; He came to be our substitute; to die for the sins of mankind, let us preach the Gospel: the Death, the Burial and the Resurection of our Lord, Jesus Christ! By doing this we will be focused! Once on a vacation with my family we were traveling by car on I95 South. We were receiving good radio reception on our favorite station until we began approaching Philadelphia, PA., then the reception started getting poor. After searching for another station we soon was again out of range and lost that station also. I soon gave up using the radio and resorted to using a cassette tape instead. Don't be like my family and I, searching for good reception, but instead tune into the Bible and there you will find the correct station. We do not have to lose focus!!! Don't get me wrong, many churches are following the scriptures but many more are involved in preaching the money gospel. You may have noticed that when taking an offering emphasis is on "planting seed" rather then giving money. If you would put a handful of seed in the offering basket the ushers or deacons would escort you out of the church. You would be noted as a lunatic and rightfully so. The "Seed" doctrine comes from the parable of the "Sower and the Seed" found in the Bible at St. Luke 8:5-14: 5A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.    6And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.    7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.    8And other fel1 on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.    9And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?    10And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.    11Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.    12Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.    13They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.    14And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.    15But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. As you can see, Jesus teaches that the seed is the Word of God. It is not money. Money is money and seed is seed. The Word of God should be planted in the hearts of men and woman. Seed is to be planted in the earth for our natural food. The Word of God is for spiritual food, and seed once harvested is for our natural food. Another error I see is, a lot of "Mega-Churches" on TV when the person is expounding the Word, some p1.ersons in the congregation are throwing money at his/her feet. This comes from Acts 4:35-37:    35And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.    36And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,    37Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet. In verse 35 we see that the Apostles gave the money to them who were in need, they did not keep the money for themselves. What is shown on TV is a perversion of truth. Instead of spritualizing the scriptures, just preach it (The Word) as it is, do not make it pretty, just stand flat footed and preach what it says. And all the needs of the Church will be satisfied. We can preach the Gospel and stay FOCUSED!!! Amen and Amen.
