Our mission is to glorify the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by knowing Him, and making Him know to others.
We intend to fulfill our mission by:
- Being a nurting Church to all people.
- Providing a Christian witness where persons of diverse culture can come to strengthen their faith.
- Being a living disciple to the love of God in Christ.
- Reaching out in caring and serving ministries to each other, to our community, and to the world
Memorial AME Zion Church was founded in 1827 by Rev. Thomas James who felt the need to have a church for his own people. This was the first Black Church in Rochester. The church has been the home of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and a stop over station for the Underground Railroad Movement.
