The mission of the church is to save the lost. It is to make known the love of God to men and women, boys and girls, and to win them to place their allegiance and lives in God's hands because they have partaken of that love. Our mission is the same as that of Jesus who said, "The Son of Man is come to seek and save that which was lost." Luke 19:10 And the gospel commission that Jesus gave is, "Go ye therefore and teach all nations . . . teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. . ." Matthew 28:19, 20. It is to prepare people to meet their soon coming Savior.
God has revealed Himself to us in several ways--through His Word, the Bible, through nature, through Jesus, through Providential workings and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. These are not in conflict but are in harmony with each other. The Bible urges us to test whether we are hearing the right Spirit by the Word. 1 John 4:1; Isaiah 8:20 The Word of God is the supreme authority.
Thoughout history God is seen in conflict with Satan who abounds in falsehoods contrasted with God's nature of love and truth and stability. He is Someone who is trustworthy. Someone who gives all He can to save us and restore us. We find that God is so stable that what he says holds true and can be relied upon. Psalm 100:5; Psalm 89:34; Hebrews 13:8. We find that God created us for forever friendship with Himself, making a holy day each week just to foster that friendship. He has poured out all heaven in the Gift of Jesus to re-establish and maintain His friendship. Besides all the created things He has given the gift of time and Himself which clearly is like a flag or signet ring, commemorating both creation and redemption. What a wonderful gift! Would He think of changing this "perpetual" day related, real living token of continuing friendship? Ezekiel 20:12, 20; Exodus 31:16; Malachi 3:6.
In contrast to God, Satan has tried to make Him look bad by making people think that the bad in the world is due to God. He has even helped false doctrines to be held by Christian bodies, which make God appear in a bad light.
Thanks be to God! He will soon set all things right and we will then see clearly what has been perplexing now. He says: "I will come again so you can be with Me." John 14:6.
