Our Lord's Temple Church of God in Christ was founded in Ithaca, New York in 1970. Before occupying the current site at 443 N. Tioga Street, the church resided at 521-1/2 Meadow Street, next to the Meadow Court Motel. The current pastor is Elder Calvin F. Christian. Along with his wife Missionary Christine Christian they have been ministering to the Ithaca community for over 13 years.
The church membership is currently over 35 (active and inactive) and growing. Members are either long time residents of Ithaca, or transplantees to the community. We embrace all persons that come through our doors for spiritual, emotional, and/or physical needs.
Our current ministries to the community include providing clothes to adults and children upon notification, single-parent ministry, and a food pantry in which we serve between 45-60 families typically every month. Also, we have on Friday evening's crafts and VeggieTales Videos for children of all ages. These ministries are in addition to the regular scheduled church services on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Our future ministries include being a vital and additional resource to the community in jobs creation, children and adult computer literacy, drug rehabilitation support, and educating young mothers in home economics.
The church's motto is, "We are the lamp for the city!" We realize that in order to be a lamp that we must have, one (1) a vessel (building) to hold the oil, two (2) oil (ministries or services), three (3) a wick (people) saturated with the ministries or services, and four (4) a flame (desire within) to keep the lamp burning. Currently, we have all these. However, our vessel or building is in dire need of repair.
