The setting for a new and much needed Orthodox parish is the picturesque Hudson Highlands of New York State, a short drive from the metropolitan New York City and New Jersey areas.
A recent visit of Metropolitan +Stephan and Archbishop +Michael of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church of North & South America, based in Cleveland, Ohio proved that there are many Orthodox and other interested families in the area who would like to benefit from the establishment of worshipping and active Orthodox Christian Parish. A baptism was performed and several other services celebrated by the Hierarchs. The patron saint chosen for the new church is St. Nicholas of Myra, a saint much beloved by people worldwide as well as in Western Ukraine, Russia the Middle East and Greece.
In this very historic part of the country, there has never to this day been an Orthodox Eastern Rite Parish in the Peekskill/Cortlant area. A mission of the Sobornopravna will serve the needs of Orthodox of all ethnic backgrounds as well as other Christians and those seeking the unique character of our jurisdiction.
