Faith-In-Action Committee AND Repentance Fast
Our church is committed to ensuring that when the Lord invites us to do his work, we obey that call. The Faith-In-Action Committee is the forum where we meet to pray, discuss, and carry out the visions the Lord has given us. The Faith-In-Action committee is currently sponsoring a city-wide repentance fast to bring in the 1999 New Year. This is a call for Christians and the rest of the world to renew their relationship with the Lord by repenting of their sins. In the wake of the Clinton Impeachment crisis, the church wants the world to realize that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God," not just the President. We all need to follow the President's lead by repenting of our sins.
On Tuesday, December 28, 1998, the night the fast begins M & L will show a video by Bishop T.D. Jakes entitled "The Sad Memories of a Lost of Opportunity." This video chronicles a Christian approach to dealing with the Impeachment Crisis.
At 12:01 a.m. on the 29th the fast will begin. From the 29th until 12:01 a.m. on the 31st, the fasters will only eat vegetables and drink water. From 12:01 a.m. December 31 until 12:01 a.m. January 1st, those who are capable will not eat anything.
The fasters will give up all pleasurable activities that tend take their minds off prayer for all three days of the fast. In addition, each day the fasters will pray about specific problems in our society that tend to cause people to sin.
To close the fast, the fasters will meet at church (the specific details will be discussed in a later announcement) for a "Watch Service." Right after the fast ends, the fasters will be served a light breakfast. If you would like more details about the fast, please call (336) 349-3610.
