About First Church
The First Congregational Church was organized Nov. 2, 1881--eight years to the day before North Dakota gained statehood.
The first public service was held in Harwood Hall, located over Morrisons Saloon. They then moved to McHench Hall. After being evicted twice, the congregation voted to buy property and build their own church. The first service was held in the new chapel, Dec. 3, 1882.
This chapel was destroyed ( and rebuilt) by a tornado in 1860. In 1887, the flood of Oe87, which inundated much of Fargo, did serious damage to the church. The damage was repaired. This was the home of First Church for over 70 years. The present church, on 17th Ave. South, was constructed in 1963.
Handicapped parking is available.
Today, we have 300 members.
